The Yuj Chapter

Yoga is an exercise for the body as well as the mind. We at The Yuj Chapter (TYC) would rather want to call it a holistic experience. Yoga is said to deal with the energy of the body and also enhance the unearthly, immaterial experiences.

The word Yuj is the Sanskrit root word for the word 'Yoga'. It means 'to join' or 'to yoke' or 'to unite'. Yoga is said to have originated in India and involves physical postures, breathing techniques and meditation mainly to promote mental and physical well-being. When regularly practiced, Yoga can promote endurance, strength, calmness, flexibility and well-being.

We always tend to associate the word Yoga with "Union' but it can also be associated with separation i.e. separating the real from the unreal, truth from ignorance, so on and so forth.

Imagine Yoga to be a tree and let me tell you that the tree has 6 branches!

Raja Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Tantra Yoga, Hatha Yoga, Bhakti Yoga and Karma Yoga. We at TYC believe in Hatha Yoga which is a combination of many styles of Yoga. It has more physical Yoga involved compared to calm and composed meditation. It focuses on Pranayamas, asanas and then in the end shavasana.

According to Harvard Health publications, people who do Yoga tend to become mindful eaters! They say that the Yoga studios don’t have mirrors and this is typically so that people can concentrate on their awareness inwards rather than on how they look or how people around them look. Did you know this? Pretty interesting right? We think its very thoughtful!

Heart Benefits Yoga can help lower blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar, all of which are good for your heart and blood vessels. Mindful Eating Being more aware of how your body feels carries over to mealtimes as you savor each bite or sip and notice how food smells, tastes, and feels in your mouth. Weight Control Mindfulness developed through yoga can make you more sensitive to cues of hunger and fullness, which help you develop a more positive relationship with food.
